Use ethical principles in decisions regarding issues related to individuals, populations, and health care delivery systems.

Outcome 9:

During the PCNP program, I completed several assignments that discussed ethical principles regarding controversial topics such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In my last semester, I completed an assignment where I discussed COVID-19 vaccine mandates utilizing bioethical standards such as autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. I also researched and discussed the ethical dilemmas and mental health consequences associated with COVID-19 and the effects on healthcare workers' mental health. The assignments have taught me how to utilize ethical principles and apply them to my practice as an NP. Click the boxes below:

During my NURS 7250 course, I completed a group assignment on ethical and economic perspectives on health. I worked with a classmate and answered several questions regarding the legalization of recreational/medical marijuana and its effects on APRNs. I researched various ethical principles including beneficence, respect for autonomy, non-maleficence, and justice relating to legalizing medical marijuana. I was able to reflect not only on my personal views but also consider the potential positive and negative impacts of marijuana legalization. I had the opportunity to interview Sheriff Tony Helms, Chief Law Enforcement Officer, on his feelings about marijuana legislation, including the potential worsening of motor vehicle accidents and mental health in jails. He also spoke on various laws and regulations that would need to be in place and how this could overall affect the APRN. Click below to view this assignment:
